Thoughts on How KD Feels About His Fellows

And probably some other stuff that will come up

2025-10-07 Musings

Rimer

  • Small
  • Surprisingly intelligent
  • Reckless (maybe just compared to the others)

Willie

  • Cautious/plays it safe
  • Asks more questions/wants to know the plan(tm)
  • Voted most likely to be able to save us when we get into trouble.
  • More going on behind the scenes than he lets out

Zarlo

  • Smort
  • Devious (maybe in a good way)
  • Probably the most dangerous of the group (also in a good way)

Dekmar

  • Also seems quite intelligent
  • Studious
  • Cautious
  • Need more input

Buckster

  • Kinda feels sorry for him but wants to nurture his potential. What potential?

Captain Whatsizface

  • Not particularly bothered

KD

Probably worth exploring how he feels about what he’s ended up becoming so far.

Will handwavium that he was tasked with protection of Whisper Base, rather than loyalty to any one faction, so doesn’t care that the base has changed hands. If the new beings in charge of the base think that X needs doing, X will (probably) get done.

Not sure if Rimer or Zarlo are the ones most likely to get everyone killed. 78% probability that in an “everyone’s about to die” situation, Willie will be the one to pull them out of it.

Rimer is more intelligent than he appears, but also seems a bit too reckless to live long. KD will attempt to keep him alive as long as possible. Appreciates his resourcefulness and smarts though. Has delivered some inspiring speeches to the others. May be the team mascot.

Zarlo’s “smarts” are of a different sort. More devious, but probably in a good way. Has a better chance of living longer, but probably not long enough to die peacefully in his sleep. Identified Zarlo as the biggest threat (to our opponents) within the group. The others mostly defer to his judgement, but don’t seem super pleased about it.

Willie is more cautious than the others, and has more going on behind the scenes than he lets out, though no idea what that is yet. He’ll either want to know what the plan is for any given situation, or be the one with the plan. May have a heart condition, or be a little too into droids. Noted to let him down gently should he ever try to make his feelings known.

Dekmar also seems intelligent, in a book smart way. Need more input to evaluate fully, but concerned how he’ll perform in the field.

Feels sorry for Buckster. Wants to try and help unlock his potential if he can work out what that even is.

Captain Whatsizface (at the base) seems to think he’s in charge but obviously isn’t. Somehow keeps things running though.

Also why is everyone obsessed with jackets?

From the Others

Zarlo

Zarlo trusts KD the most because he’s absolutely scary and funny in his eyes. He views Rimer’s intelligent/witty side like a past version of himself but honestly, Zarlo believes that rimer could be more than just a smart guy. Zarlo is confused by Willy. He sees the sort of Smuggler Mask that Willy puts on but He doesn’t know who Willy is at his core. He just seems like a generic good person with no flaws.

<OOC:None of this about player roleplay ability, more of the story at this point, hasn’t given us more opportunities to show our character off. Zarlo determines who someone is by this quote: When the chips are down, people show you who and what they care about.>

Rimer

Willie is the only remaining member of the squad that Rimer initially arrived with. His first impressions of Willie in the field were interesting. Although Willie created a loud explosion at the beginning of what Rimer hoped to be more of an infiltration, he was effective and got the job done with no fuss, and Rimer was glad he was still around. He also admires Willie’s curious nature and willingness to learn about topics he wasn’t an expert in.

Rimer felt friction with Zarlo from the moment they met. The way he executed the unarmed Imperials offering no challenge, and his superiority complex really ground Rimer’s gears. He wondered whether Gray’s time embedded within the Empire may have done irreparable damage to his personality. Since then, Rimer’s stance has begun to soften. How can he feel annoyed at Zarlo for issuing orders if Rimer doesn’t suggest anything himself, despite his own competent grasp of galactic basic? He also recognises Gray’s willingness to listen to others as a strength of leadership, and his generosity with gifts a sign of his kindness.

Rimer’s relationship with KD is very harmonious as far as he’s concerned. They synergise well in combat as well as at crafting stations, and the droid’s straight-forward personality keeps everything uncomplicated. Likewise with Buxter.

Dekmar is an unknown quantity, but Rimer isn’t looking forward to discovering he might not be the biggest brain in the room any more.

The Drall’s head has been spinning recently though, ever since recovering the artifact, with Rimer finding himself unsure if he can trust his team. His fear and paranoia has led to many sleepless nights or interrupted sleep with multiple nightmares where he ended up in the trash compactor, hung in the trees for target practice, or weaponless in the dark with the chanting of the Shorlocks…

Due to his rather coddled upbringing, Rimer isn’t that good at ‘getting on with it’, and sometimes longs for things to be as they were … before he lost his parents. All he can do is the next best thing and take all their lessons to heart when deciding on his next step forward.

Willie

Willie Basically only trust Rimmer. But that is basically only because Rimmer was with him when he first came here, and Rimmer seems to be the only other good person. Willie doesn’t know Dekmar well enough to know how good of a person he is.

Willie’s first impressions of Zarlo were “Oh shit I need to get as far away from this guy as I can. He is going to end up killing me.” But Willie now respects Zarlo and is trying to treat him as sort of the group leader.

I am not sure that Willie will do much in the way of something too insane. TBH he was wilder before Zarlo joined the crew and kind of became the leader. But WIllie is also kind of hiding in the Alliance from his past so he does not want to stir up too much shit for fear of getting kicked out, or discovered kind of thing

I have always likened Willie to What if Han Solo was REALLY bad at being a smuggler

Be interesting to revisit this after a few more sessions, see how people’s feelings have evolved.
