Initial DND Thoughts
Plans are afoot to get a game of Dungeons & Dragons rolling amongst the Drafts/Secret sales staff.
Other than video games though, I know not what I do. So, some ideas for characters (thus far).
Half Orc Bard
Ya know, cos stereotypes are boring. Left the tribe because he wants to sing.
The racial strength+constitution bonuses do kinda make up for areas bards are traditionally weak in. Thinking like Joe Strummer/Tim Armstrong; not necessarily particularly good at the musical part, but somehow pulls it off anyway. And also smacks stuff pretty hard.
Monk
Possibly half-orc too, dumped at the monastery as a baby, heads out into the world, fun ensues. Maybe Tiefling instead? Ghost Dog?
Monk/bard viable?
Ooh, short swords (and others) count as Monk weapons, so don’t have to go unarmed. Could be an old fella wandering the land with a quarterstaff, then “oops, everyone’s dead”.
Others
The Fool
Someone like Tehol Beddict generally a bit shit but somehow manages to pull it off anyway. (Gotta be careful on that wiki because I haven’t finished the books yet).
Rogue maybe? I know rogues.
Paladin
Paladin could be interesting. Kinda the OG Adeptus Astartes. Might get a bit one-dimensional with the whole Oath palaver. Lead us, warleader, the streets will flow with the blood of the non-believers, etc. Maybe a bit reliant on decent equipment for maximum tankness. Could lean into Callahan vibes too, with the whole “holy symbol” shtick.
Bonus healing, decent charisma, so party face potential too.
Tying a bunch of bones and antlers onto his armour? Oath of Vengenace gives Batman vibes.
Sorcerer
Just for full “agent of chaos” points. Wild magic.
Maybe steal/adapt some ideas from Star Wars bois:
Other Types of Characters I Think it Could Be Fun to Play:
The Picard
Sorta. Some kinda diplomat/politico. Much talking into/out of situations. All the leadership skills
Stupid Lucky Guy
Gambler spec? Basically sucks at everything but manages to blag it anyway. Sometimes.
Big Fighty Boi
Mandalorian maybe, basically going for an Astartes. Walking tank, shoots/hits stuff and takes a pounding but no subtlety.
Or the opposite of that. Real good at smashing stuff up but tries to avoid it. - This kinda became KD-40N
Synth/Replicant
A droid that can pass as human (or a different species). All of the extra special bonus points for the other players not knowing initially too. A Gank could be a good disguise. Pass as a cyborg/augmented human for as long as possible.
Backgrounds
Acolyte could make sense for the Monke. Or Paladin for that matter.
Charlatan could be fun for anyone. Rogue or Bard makes most sense though.
Criminal→Spy could be good for a bard too. Used to be attached to the court of so and so, espionage etc had to get out fast.
Picking Entertainer for a bard seems a bit too basic.
Guild Artisan sounds boring, but maybe a cartographer got bored/inspired looking at maps and decided to go and actually see these places. The access to political powers could be handy.
Hermit could work for the monk/paladin. Secluded monastery yada yada. Mostly noting because it’d be hilarious if the “unique and powerful discovery” they unearthed was the fourth wall. Trying to convince the other characters that nothing matters because someone else is pulling the strings, and everything is ultimately decided on the roll of a dice. Ooh, that could work for a rogue too. Ala Matt from Wheel of Time, hearing the dice rattling.
Noble = Stede fucking Bonnet.
Outlander for a Callahan? Wandered in from another plane of existence/level of The Tower?
Sailor could be interesting for a Bard. Like Frenchie. Gives options for running into the crew/captain at some point (or not, because they all died). Sole survivor of the legendary INSERT SHIP NAME.
